Final Advancing POD # 2 - Ginkapo / Aresius

Let's talk about gimmicks.  Last year one was good enough to win the whole thing with a pretty respectable gimmick:  One fat angry ship and two smaller ships that hit almost as hard - but you need first player or it all goes wrong.  This year, the gimmick to watch is Ginkapo:

Ginkapo - Rebel Alliance

Points: 393/400

CR90 Corvette B (39 points)
= 39 total ship cost

CR90 Corvette B (39 points)
-  Engine Techs  ( 8  points)
-  Reinforced Blast Doors  ( 5  points)
= 52 total ship cost

[ flagship ] GR-75 Medium Transports (18 points)
-  General Rieekan  ( 30  points)
-  Bright Hope  ( 2  points)
= 50 total ship cost

GR-75 Medium Transports (18 points)
-  Quantum Storm  ( 1  points)
= 19 total ship cost

1 Green Squadron ( 12 points)
1 Gold Squadron ( 12 points)
1 Lietenant Blount ( 14 points)

That's right, that is 8 activations, 9 deployments, and a merely respectable bid of 393.  He does bring one of the Rieekan Commanders onto the board, taking the cheapest moderately moving uniques.

If you can't tell his gimmick, it is to turn his ships into battering rams.  Maybe not the best idea for a real tournament, but when it's win or go home time, and it is, this may be what keeps him winning while his opponents go home.  For those at home that is 6 CR-90s.  4 of them with Engine Techs and Blast Doors (We'll call them Hammer Head Cruisers).  And a Brightboat Commander and a generic Quantum Storm.

He won all his games.  Not always by a lot, and never by more than 8-3, but he won them.

Our runner up has gone with the Super Battleship and activations mentality, similar to that shown by myself and former World Champ Jonathan Reining at the most recent worlds.  Excellent against a lot of small ship activation based builds by having one heavy hitter out deploy and out gun their swarm, he did not have the answer for the Corvette swarm however.  He sports 11 deployments!  6 activations, and a bid of "merely" 395.  His MC-80 Battle Cruiser is loaded for bear, sporting XI7 and XX5 Turbos, Intel Officer, Engine Techs, and High Capacity Ions in case the opponent manages a flank.  Toryn Farr makes his YTs and A-Wings scary, and he has a lot of those.

A terrifying list to go up against for sure.  His opponent was Truthiness, which the battle is already over with Aresius moving onward.  Someone to watch in future matches for certain.
